Energy supplier unveils windfarm plans

One of the UK's leading electricity suppliers has submitted plans to build a major new windfarm off the coast of East Yorkshire.

E.ON's plans for the Humber Gateway project, which the Ministry of Defence objects, would involve the creation of a new site which would provide energy for around 200,000 homes across Britain.

It is believed that the new development would cost approximately £700 million to complete.

Dr Paul Golby, chief executive of energy provider, said such large scale windfarms have a "vital role" to play in the UK's future energy mix.

He added that the project will "displace the emission of hundreds of the thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide every year and will make a significant contribution to helping the government meet its tough renewable energy targets".

E.ON services around eight million electricity and gas customers across the UK.

The company is also one of the Britain's leading green energy generators and operates around 21 windfarms from Cornwall to Northern Ireland.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18539479-ADNFCR
